Planning Commission

About

The Planning Commission is a board of town residents appointed by the Town Council to advise the Council in all planning and land use matters; to review and make recommendations regarding the Comprehensive Plan, subdivision and zoning ordinances, and other land use regulations; and to conduct public hearings related to planning matters in the town. Sections 33.01-33.10 of the Town Code address the activities of the Planning Commission.

The Occoquan Planning Commission generally meets on the fourth Tuesday of each month at the Occoquan Town Hall when it has business to conduct. Notices of meetings are posted in advance on the Town’s website below, at the Occoquan Town Hall and the Occoquan Post Office.

Comprehensive Plan

The Comprehensive Plan is critical to defining the intentions and expectations of the Town. It sets in writing the aspirations of the Town’s citizenry and forms the basis from which Town government makes decisions concerning historic preservation, development, transportation, environmental protection, Town services, and a host of other issues that confront Occoquan on a daily basis. The Comprehensive Plan is multi-faceted and long-range in nature. It is as much a process as it is a document. This process provides a chance for competing interests to arrive at a common vision, and to consider how cumulative actions may affect the long-term viability of the Town. The Planning Commission is responsible for updating the Town’s 10 year Comprehensive Plan.

Planning Commission Meeting Schedule

All meetings are open to the public.  Applications and materials for the Planning Commission are due in Town Hall by noon on the third Tuesday of the month in order to be included on the next agenda. Contact Town Staff for general questions.
