Virginia’s Alcohol Beverage Control (ABC) Authority recently issued guidance on an accelerated approval process for the temporary expansion of outdoor dining areas (the guidance may be viewed here), designed to go into effect when a locality enters Phase 1. Included among the Virginia ABC requirements was a condition that any applicant document the local jurisdiction’s approval of the expansion.

The Town has adopted a simple, one-page form that restaurants can complete and that the Town will attempt to approve within a matter of hours. This should be satisfactory documentation of the Town’s approval for purposes of a restaurant’s expansion application to Virginia ABC. There is no Town fee for this.

Occoquan restaurants interested in temporarily expanding their outdoor seating areas should complete the form and return it to Town Manager Kathleen Leidich at kleidich@occoquanva.gov or drop it off at Town Hall, 314 Mill St. There is a lockbox outside of Town Hall for contact-free and after-hours drop-offs.
