The Town of Occoquan is seeking an innovative, energetic, experienced, and highly effective leader with a focus and proven history of successful small town policing. The incoming Chief will be responsible for maintaining a safe and welcoming environment within the town’s residential and business communities. In addition, the incoming Chief will be responsible for evaluating and assessing the department’s current practices, policies, and programs, and developing and presenting an assessment of the department based on the needs of the community, department capabilities, and input from the Town Council and other stakeholders, that focuses on the future of the department and community.       

This is a “working” position in that the incoming Chief will provide enforcement duties, as well as the administrative duties associated with the position.  To that end, the ideal candidate will have expertise in all facets of law enforcement and crime prevention.  The successful candidate will possess excellent communication skills and be willing to participate in community service, public relations activities, and various events that are hosted by or in the town.  The ideal candidate will also have a proven record of building and maintaining cooperative, collaborative, and positive relationships with the community, and with local and regional law enforcement agencies. In addition, the successful candidate will have experience with managing and developing personnel, budgets, policies, and programs, and have significant experience in community policing practices. Local law enforcement experience and patrol experience is sought, as well as grant writing experience. The successful candidate will be accessible, diplomatic, and establish themselves as a credible community leader and community resource.

About the Position

Under general supervision, performs highly responsible administrative and professional work in the coordination of the financial operations of the Town of Occoquan. Work includes official responsibility for accounting for all receipts and disbursements; prepares a variety of financial reports; processes payroll; manages cash balances; prepares and manages grant programs; directs and conducts audits and prepares and presents reports; assists with budget preparation and implements Town policies; performs work independently with initiative and exercises independent judgment; utilizes advanced administrative and financial skills to address a wide range of work situations involving highly sensitive and confidential information; and works with other Town employees, Council members, elected officials and the general public.  Work is performed under the supervision of the Town Manager. Experience with Quickbooks required; CPA preferred.

Hours: A minimum of 24 hours per month, including evenings and weekends.

The Town of Occoquan is seeking a highly motivated, innovative, and self-driven individual with experience in community event planning and development, fundraising, marketing, and public relations to serve as the Town’s Events and Community Development Director.  The successful candidate will have demonstrated experience in event planning and development, and successfully developed and implemented fundraising activities or events that generated significant revenue for the organization or community. The successful candidate will be self-driven and have a desire to work closely with the community, businesses, staff, volunteers, vendors, and visitors to develop and implement community programming that will leave a lasting, positive impact on the Town of Occoquan. 

The successful candidate will have demonstrated experience in managing event budgets, and developing or implementing marketing or communication plans. In addition, the successful candidate will have knowledge of various marketing and publicizing strategies and platforms, aimed at increasing attendance, participation, and revenue.  The successful candidate will serve as the point of contact for the Town for all town events and community programming, and serve as the liaison between the town and business community.  The Events and Community Development Director plays a large role in the promotion and development of the Occoquan community and its quality of life for its residents, businesses, and visitors.
